Repair and Maintenance of Listed Buildings and Period Properties by local Edinburgh Stonemasons
Established in 2001 by Paul Tracey, a time served stonemasons who himself has 32 years experience in the field of stonemasonry,
conservation and restoration. Paul served his time with W&JR Watson stonemasons and then went on to work for William Gerard’s
Stonemasons, including the position of stonemasonry lecturer at Edinburghs Telford College.
From listed buildings to world heritage sites, our stonemasons and restoration experts have delivered exceptional results on a variety of
projects throughout Scotland including churches, bridges, period properties to smaller privately owned properties and Edinburghs traditional tenements and townhouses.
Our team of qualified skilled craftsmen are trained to carry out traditional time proven repairs to the historic built environment, working with stone, lime renders/harling, lime pointing, plasters and lime wash/paints. If you have restoration projects that you would like to discuss, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Stonemasons Edinburgh
If you are looking for stonemasons in Edinburgh, then look no further than Burgh Stonemasonry. We are one of the premium stonemasons company, offering a professional and high quality service in restoration and building conservation. We thrive on years of reputation and word of mouth where work has been carried out to the highest standards at affordable prices.
As an unique stonemasons in Edinburgh, Burgh Stonemasonry can help with your entire stonemasons needs. This can include restoration, repairs and replacements, wall repairs, chimney repairs to larger stonemasons projects. With over 32 years’ experience in building restoration, we have worked on a variety of projects throughout Scotland from small and personal projects as well as commercial large scale projects restoring multiple properties.
We are the only Edinburgh stonemasons to appear on the popular channel 4 show ‘Grand Designs’ where our expertise and skills were on display when we fully restored a dilapidated Edinburgh home back to its former glory. The 19th century sandstone house had been left unoccupied and neglected for a period of years, exposed to attack by the harsh unforgiving Scottish weather; the cream coloured sandstone was left badly weathered and decayed. The exterior of the building required specialist attention, Burgh Stone Masonry ended up replacing 140 hand-cut blocks and of course it goes without saying traditional lime mortars were used for all works.
Although we are highly trained in restoring listed buildings and period properties, Burgh Stonemasonry also specialise in the repair of traditional stone and lime constructed solid masonry walls. These walls are often ancient, having stood for hundreds of years and require a repair and maintenance programme to keep them in a good state of repair. Stones may become loose or cracked and we work towards replacing these with appropriate types. It is also possible to introduce a little character into new builds and extensions by using reclaimed stones when building new walls. This is both a useful and attractive aspect to any property – new or old.
If you are looking for stonemasons in Edinburgh who can fix your chimney, then Burgh Stonemasons can help. Above the roofline the chimney stack is exposed to the full force of the weather. While some companies can offer repairs to your chimney at cheap prices, these repairs can often be compromised by using inappropriate cement based mortars which look unsightly and not in keeping with the character of the building. Burgh Stone Masonry can guarantee correct material choice and expert restoration of any chimney stack.
The stonemasons works mentioned are just some of the services we can help you with. We also specialise in Lime pointing, Lime renders and Lithomex lime mortar repairs. As well as properties issued with a statutory notice we also carry out emergency repairs, where a building or part of a building is declared unsafe to the general public. Mobile elevated working platforms can be used at a fraction of the cost and time of a traditional scaffold system. The buildings can be surveyed and made safe, allowing owners/tenants valuable time to organise funds for an appropriate repair strategy.
